Brain freeze due to too many contradictions in a philosophical system
Used to be a problem in religions in cults, though more commonly associated with political philosophy these days. Epistemologically it is caused by the peripheral conceptions of the community (the stuff that causes schisms) rather than the central tenet of the ideology. Practically it is often the result of contradictory and self-serving factions who will make the rules up to go along with their requirements at the time.
Orders that have built up large bodies of wor over the years are far more at risk of contradictions than others. For example, in the mid 15th century, the Kale Garden, one of the spirit conventions, had a purge of standing decrees because it was discovered that somehow they had agreed that no creature (humans included) that could actually vote on any new laws, and because the decrees were imbued with magic to enforce them, they could even get in the building. They had to ask a passing lemur (on vacation from eastern Madagascar) to remove the initiation insignia on their behalf
