When a Mermaid is allergic to seawater
Just as some people cannot go out in sunlight, some mermaids are born unable to swim in saltwater. The poor individuals have to spend their entire lives living in rivers, unable to travel the five seas (mermaids are banned from the black sea, and cannot swim in the Red sea), so often get stuck in places, like Sabrina in the Seven. This is when they usually get bored of being alone and find a human to have children with.
