A mask to bring forth the wrath of the fashions gods
Most tribal masks are hideous for a variety of practical reasons: to scare the enemy away; to scare the bad spirits away; to scare your mother in law away.
Sometimes the mask is so bad that it actually angers one of the many gods who like to think of themselves as the fashionable god, even if they are not supposed to be relevant to that particular tribe. It doesn’t usually lead to a religious war, but it can end up in a heavenly rain of sequins for desert peoples as the goddesses let loose with handbags and stilettos.
